Riley & Durrant Nov 2010 Mixtape by rileyanddurrant
QUESTION 1
If you live in Leicester or anywhere up and down the country, you can listen to Andi on Capital, Friday and Saturday Nights.. But put these in order and tell us why?
1. DJing - There’s nothing like the feeling of a rammed out club full of brilliant up-for-it people with an electric atmosphere. It’s having that instant interaction with people and being able to see a big smile come over someones face when you get it right. Best feeling in the world.
2. Radio – The 2nd best feeling is putting the mic fader up and getting that rush of butterflies in your stomach when you think about the fact there’s a potential 50-odd million people who could hear everything you do. We’ve always loved the experimental side of radio to – because you don’t have to keep people dancing, you can play music that’s a bit different and interesting to the ear.
3. Producing – Last but not exactly least – we do love making music, but it’s by far the hardest process and takes the longest to see the fruits of your work. Watching a club full of people go crazy to one of your records or remixes is such a fantastic thing, but often it can take up to a year from when you made something before people hear it.
QUESTION 2
Andi Durrant... you like fast cars! Do you Nick Riley? Who drives to the gigs? Do you still race off the lights?!
Nick: I do like fast cars, but I’m no boy racer like Andi! As his cars are so uneconomical we tend to use my BMW for gigs as its diesel and as Andi is also insured to drive it we share the driving.
Andi: Once a Max Power Chav.. always a Max Power Chav! Since rolling my car into a washing machine repair shop when I was 18 I’ve kept my boy racing to the track and drag strip, but I’m still a major car geek. I just had to sell my old 80s American Camaro IROC because I’m going to hit 30 soon and have 2 babies to carry around now, but yeah.. I still have to have something with a bit of “poke”.
QUESTION 3
If you've never been to Superfly (why not ;0) or seen Riley + Durrant DJ Live (why not ;0), Why should everyone come and see Riley + Durrant at LMPPPresents?
Nick: This is a difficult one to answer without a bit of trumpet blowing, but here goes.. The thing about coming to see us play, is that you never quite know what’s going to come next, we tend to play a lot of different styles and sounds and make loads of exclusive mashups so everthing is always a bit unique and different.
Andi: For some reason, we tend to get asked to play a lot of different types of events.. one week we might be warming up for Tiesto or Paul Van Dyk, the next we’ll be playing with Erick Morillo or Calvin Harris.. then the night after we’ll be in a much more commercial venue, and of course because of the radio we’re lucky to be involved with a lot of different scenes and genres. If someone just wants to go out and have a brilliant night out and her some awesome music – they should come and party with us.
QUESTION 4
Who are your 5 favourite Like-Minded People you like to follow on Facebook or Twitter? Name check them!
Andi: At the risk of sounding like a name dropping nob, I have a lot of good banter with Example (@example) who’s a really nice guy. Sonny Wharton (@SONNYWHARTON) is always interesting and a top bloke, HervĂ© (@hervespace) is often brutally and hilariously honest and Dirty Secretz (@dirtysecretz) are making half the music we play in our shows and sets at the moment.. and they’re from Leicester ;)
QUESTION 5
What's the rest of the year looking like for you both? Records, Gigs, Festivals?? Where can we see you after you play after LMP Presents in Leicester?
Nick: Really good actually - the start of this year has been our best ever. In the first few weeks of 2011 we’ve played some fantastic gigs, remixed the new D Ream record and K Klass track for the Shapeshifters label, and launched the new national Capital FM show across the UK.
Summer is looks like it’s going to be very big, cant go into too much detail but we have just been booked for a legendary UK festival and we have some awesome Ibiza news that will be released over the coming weeks. On the music front, we’ve got an upcoming album project with our new band Backyard Orchestra on CR2 records with the first single being released in a month or so – just waiting on the video being finished. On top of that we’ve got a string of singles ready for our Electrik Playground label and some big remixes coming up too.
Now watch what the guys get up to like when they met Steve Angello + Axwell..
